The FedEx man has become my new, best accountability in life and he doesn't even know it.
Every day at my office the FedEx man comes in and picks up and drops off packages, makes small talk or jokes with myself and our Senior Office Associate who sits at another desk with me in the front office. Well, a couple weeks ago, the senior office associate was out from work for a while and it was just me in the front. About that time I decided to start writing the first letters of each word in verses in order to memorize them. For example, Philippians 1:6 would look like "Hwbagwiywbftci" (He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it). So I had three verses written on the underside of my wrist at work. FedEx man came in, and in addition to usual small talk, pointed and asked what was on my arm. I felt pretty silly quite honestly with doodles on my arm and explaining them to the FedEx Man in the middle of my office. But I just said "They're verses I'm trying to memorize." He replied, "Oh yeah? So what are they?" Well, thankfully I actually had really been trying to memorize them earlier on the bus that day and was able to look down and be reminded of the verse by looking at the letters. So I quoted them to him. He nodded approvingly, then asked me who wrote those verses and why! I answered as much as I could, and he filled in the rest! It was so neat! He smile and walked out. FedEx man is my brother in Christ.
Later in the week, when I had new verse on my arm, he asked what they were, and again I was tested on whether or not I was actually memorizing them.
The next week he came in and I had quite honestly forgotten about my determined new endeavor to write verses on my arm and memorize them. He asked why there was nothing there, reminding me that I had been wanting to keep doing that.
So now, I remember when one has washed off that I want to continue to hide God's word in my heart and so I write another one, and I actually memorize it...
...because FedEx man will ask.
